Figo

Part of the 'For Balla' series

My girlfriend has Portuguese heritage, her name is actually Portuguese even if she isn't (as far as we know, and no, Balla isn't her real name) and that has lead to her supporting Portugal at European Championships and World Cups after England inevitably go home earlier than expected (2018 excluded). Her favourite player of all time is the mercurial Luís Figo - an originator of Portuguese flair in the 90's, he danced through defences for the likes of Inter Milan, Barcelona and Real Madrid for the best part of 15 years.

For this poster, I wanted to try something that I'd never done before and, since I'd been playing a lot of retro video games at the time, came across the low-poly style - using only triangles to create a render of a character. The body is moulded from a number of different images, with a mesh created underneath the coloured layer, just like in a video game.
